One-Pagers (aka “sketchnotes”)
What: The “one-pager” is a tool used in business and other fields to summarize key details of a product, service, person, project, etc. Did you know that the one-pager can also be a very effective strategy for learning about a topic? Similar to a collage, the one-pager can be used to capture learning through pictures and brief text on one page of notes.
Who: This strategy may help Picture Smart learners and learners who think more holistically about topics. Creative learners may particularly enjoy this strategy (although—a caveat—they may strive to make this a masterpiece!).
Where/When: The one-pager can be used to summarize what is learned from a particular unit or lesson, book, text chapter, movie/video, or some other “segment” of learning.
How: During or after learning, students create a one-page summary of what has been learned. There can be variation as to how much of the page is pictures versus text, and students who are not as comfortable drawing can cut and paste images or complete the entire one-pager digitally.
